THE establishment of the Lako Yani Media and Communications Pte Ltd was queried during the Methodist Church in Fiji and Rotuma circuit ministers and head of divisions retreat in Suva last week.

Lako Yani Media & Communications Pte Ltd is a subsidiary company of the Lako Yani Management PTE Ltd – a business arm of the church.

Company CEO Sereana Qoro said they had been directed to look after the church’s communications department. She said there had been misuse of equipment in the church’s communications department over the past years.

Head of the church’s Indian division Reverend Abel Nand said concerns had been raised by a church member about the intentions of the subsidiary company.

In a letter to the church, he said the concerned member questioned why the company used the church’s communications department to generate income.

He said the member highlighted church members would have to pay for services of the Lako Yani Media & Communications Pte Ltd when the equipment belonged to the church.

“The company needs to purchase their own equipment rather using the ones owned by the church and its members,” the letter read.

In response, Mrs Qoro said a feasibility study was conducted before the decision to form the subsidiary company was made.

She said they discovered there was equipment missing when a stocktake was conducted within the communication’s department. She said equipment such as speakers which cost the church a lot money was missing.

“We have been brought in to help build the church’s communications service.

“The directive was from the church and it was never our decision.”
