From its establishment in 1885, Fiji School of Medicine has grown from a local medical training school to a leading institution within the Fiji National University’s College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences.
Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro made this statement while acknowledging the FSM’s 140-year journey in training health professionals who have served Fiji and the Pacific.
He officiated at FSM’s Cultural Night and closing ceremony last Saturday at the FMF Gymnasium.
The event, themed “Honouring the past, embracing the future, and celebrating excellence in health professional education,” marked the conclusion of a week-long celebration.
He said FSM’s alumni had played vital roles in public health campaigns, research, and healthcare delivery, including leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic.
He also highlighted the Government’s commitment to the future of health professional education, noting that a healthy nation was a productive nation. He also spoke about ongoing efforts to strengthen school curricula and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) pathways to better prepare students for tertiary education and the workforce, in line with Fiji’s 2021–2026 National Development Plan.
