Immigration and TFL sign agreement for secure high-speed internet access

THE Department of Immigration – under the Office of the Prime Minister – and Telecom Fiji recently signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) for the supply of more secure and high-speed dedicated internet access.

A Government statement issued today stated the agreement would allow all immigration offices in the country to be connected to the main internet server at the Department of Immigration headquarters in Suva.

It stated this would pave the way for improved and faster data and knowledge-sharing within the department.

Permanent secretary for the Office of the Prime Minister, Sugar Industry and Immigration and also acting permanent secretary for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Yogesh Karan signed the MoA with Telecom CEO Charles Goundar.

Mr Karan said the internet, among other communication tools, was crucial in the department’s work.

“This is another initiative aimed at further boosting our daily operations. We will be working very closely with Telecom as they will be our dedicated internet provider,” he said.

“Providing efficient and effective immigration services are key areas for the department and with adequate internet connectivity, service delivery is expected to be further enhanced.

“Digital connectivity through high-speed internet is expected and we acknowledge Telecom for teaming up with the department.”

Mr Goundar also welcomed the partnership saying “Telecom’s high-speed connectivity solutions will ensure that the Department of Immigration can engage in much faster and improved data and knowledge-sharing among its offices Fiji wide”.

“With the enhanced speed, security and reliability this new set up will provide to the Department of Immigration, we anticipate a tangible improvement in service delivery. This is something we have seen across all of our other similar network implementations.”

Under the agreement, Telecom will conduct service installation, testing and maintenance and other technical undertakings for this high-speed internet connectivity services to the department.
