FIJI Airways Flying Fijians head coach John McKee’s contract is expected to end in December.

McKee, whose contract was extended for another two years in 2017 to allow him to take the Flying Fijians to the 2019 Rugby World Cup, has expressed keen interest to continue building the team for the 2023 RWC.

“I think we have made a lot of progress since I have been here. A lot of learnings have come out of these campaigns. The learnings from this one carrying forward can be very beneficial,” he said upon arrival at the Nadi International Airport yesterday.

“But you know that the decision will be with the (Fiji Rugby Union) board. They will do their reviews and I guess make a decision later in the year.”

When questioned by the media if he was going to step down, McKee said: “Why would I step down? I just spoke about how good our performance was. Of course not.”

The Flying Fijians finished third in Pool D in Japan and gained automatic qualification to the 2023 RWC.

McKee’s next task is to prepare the Flying Fijians for the annual Killik Cup match against the Barbarians at Twickenham Stadium in England on November 16.

England coach Eddie Jones will coach the Barbarians.
