A probe into the Housing Authority of Fiji by the Office of the Auditor-General has revealed that 23 present and former staff members and their family members were awarded lots by the authority.
This according to the Housing Authority of Fiji Special Investigation on Lots and Tender Processes report that was tabled in Parliament on Monday.
“There were cases where staff reserved lots when the scheme was being developed through communication to staff B responsible for lot allotment,” the OAG report said.
“There was no evidence that the selection criteria for allocation of lots to staff was complied with.
“Staff allocated lots did not declare their interest.
“Personnel who were involved in processing of lot allotment for these staff also did not declare their interest. The individual files of these staff did not contain any evidence to show that their allotment processes were carried out in a transparent manner.
“We found that two staff who were directly involved in the lot allotment process were allocated lots and there was no written policy for declaration of interest by the staff who applied for the lots in the subdivisions.
“The authority has assured that a transparent process for lot allocation to staff will be performed and further indicated that conflict of interest policy has been implemented to ensure staff declare their interest appropriately.”
