Despite facing numerous challenges in preparation, the national hockey team is gearing up for the highly anticipated Oceania Pacific Cup.
The tournament will take place from December 9–12 at the National Hockey Centre in Suva.
Banking on home advantage, the team remained determined to deliver its best performance.
The squad is banking on the experience of 2024 World Cup players — Hector Smith Jr, Leevan Dutta, Jerome Edwards, George Ravatu, Kristoffer Mock, and Tristan Tora — to anchor their campaign.
Their familiarity with international pressure and high-level competition is expected to play a pivotal role in the team’s performance.
Joining them are debutants Kirk Corrie (goalkeeper), Dale Johansen, and Jerokee Mock, the younger brother of Krristofer Mock.
The fresh energy brought by these newcomers is seen as a crucial boost to the team’s dynamic.
Another significant addition is goalkeeper Darren Sawaki, who is making his return to the main team.
Sawaki was instrumental in securing gold at the 2023 Pacific Games. He will bring a wealth of experience and confidence to the squad.
The coaching team has outlined three key areas of focus in the weeks leading up to the tournament, fitness, building combinations, and set plays.
These fundamentals will be the backbone of their strategy as they seek to sharpen the team’s chemistry and execution.
Fans are encouraged to support the team as they take on regional rivals on home turf.
