FIJI Airways is rolling out a new food and service philosophy aimed at highlighting Fijian culture and local talent, says the airline’s chief marketing officer Akuila Batiweti.
He said the new menus, which have already been launched on flights to Dallas and Los Angeles, will feature authentic Fijian cuisine.
Mr Batiweti said the new food strategy was a response to a past disconnect.
“If you’ve seen our food in the past, you wonder, what’s the strategy? Why are you serving Turkish this, or Lebanese that, or something else that’s not Fijian?
“To lead this new initiative, the airline has hired its first-ever Fijian executive chef.
“We’ve never really had an executive chef that’s from Fiji and we’ve got a very young chef.”
Mr Batiweti said the new approach was part of the airline’s broader service vision.
He said the airline serves as a global marketing billboard for Fiji, and the updated in-flight experience is a key part of that.
