High Court sentences duo for aggravated burglary

A 17-YEAR-OLD juvenile and a 19-year-old man who pleaded guilty to a count each of aggravated burglary and theft were sentenced by the High Court in Suva this afternoon.
The court heard that the juvenile and Apisalome Beciwekana stole a 32 inch television worth $1999 on August 3, 2018, from Cunningham Rd.
Judge Justice Vinsent Perera said that there was pre-planning between the two before they committed the offence.
He adds that the stolen item was recovered.
He sentenced the juvenile to four months imprisonment and took into account that the juvenile was in remand for the past four months.
Justice Perera said that the juvenile has served his sentence and sent him home today.
Beciwekana was sentenced to two years and eight months imprisonment out of which he has serve four months and the remaining two years and four months has been suspended for five years.
Considering that Beciwekana has been in remand for the past four months, Justice Perera said that he has served his sentence and sent him home today.
Justice Perera told the two that this is the last opportunity they will get and for them to stay out of bad company and never come to court again.
