HANDWASHING may seem simple, but it prevents illnesses like diarrhoea, influenza, typhoid and respiratory infections, particularly during the cyclone season when diseases spread quickly, says Punjas Group chief marketing manager Gopal Jadhav.

He told the Global Handwashing Day celebrations on Thursday that handwashing was one of the simplest and most powerful ways to protect human health.

“For years, we’ve been manufacturing hygiene products for Fijian homes from laundry and dishwashing soaps to our Bodyguard and MedX Antibacterial Cleansing Bars,” Mr Jaghav said.

“These products do more than clean; they kill germs and help prevent infections. In response to health challenges such as COVID-19, we’ve continued to innovate to keep families, schools and workplaces safe.”

Mr Jadhav commended the Divisional West health inspector Rakesh Kumar, for spearheading the initiative and spreading awareness among schools and communities.

Mr Kumar said the West was free from typhoid fever; however, the onus was on individuals to maintain cleanliness.

“We still have to work together, every one of us. How will you feel if your family member is dying from typhoid or lepto, or dengue, which is a very curable disease?” he said.

“We can cure it. Prevention is better than cure.”
