Exposure for a young Lomaivuna Primary School was the vital takeaway of its participation at the Get Into Rugby Festival earlier this week, says team coach Maca Kaloudonuvuruna.

The team from Naitasiri travelled from their school to participate in the one-day festival at Bidesi Park in Laucala Bay, Suva.

Kaloudonuvuruna emphasised their participation was conceived around the goal of bringing them into a platform where they could be exposed.

“My aim for the team is to expose them, that’s the main important thing and especially for them, they normally watch the big tournaments (such as sevens and 15s),” the coach mentioned.

The team’s approach to the festival was centered around the acronym DRIPS, which stood for discipline, respect, integrity, passion and solidarity, five words that described the GIR Plus’ motive in carving a holistic and multi-faceted stance towards sports in schools.

Meanwhile, Kaloudonuvuruna spoke of the team’s training as well, adding most players in her class were helpful to the team’s progress.

“The good thing is they’re all in my class so they can have the training and I can just have the training when they are in school. To be able to come here with the training, we’ve been training every time, every day,” she said.

“If we have free time in the morning, then every morning. As soon as we have a big class, I’ll train (them) in the morning and that’s how we’re doing our training.”
