Golf Fiji president Amitesh Chandra has outlined bold plans for 2025, focusing on international representation, junior development, and expanding support for local golfers.
The organization is preparing for the World Amateur Team Championship, which will take place in October 2025 in Singapore. Trials have already begun to select the best team to represent Fiji at this prestigious event.
Fijian golfers Shakil Pillay and Rajat Rai are also set to make their debut at the NEC Master of Amateur Golf Championship in Melbourne, Australia, in January 2025.
Chandra shared that Golf Fiji has allocated $5,000 to support their participation. He noted that their success at the Asian Amateur Golf Championship in 2024 paved the way for this opportunity.
At the grassroots level, Golf Fiji plans to deepen its collaboration with clubs like Fiji Golf Club, Ba, Lautoka, and Novotel Golf Course in Nadi. These clubs’ junior programs have shown great promise, and Golf Fiji will continue to provide financial and coaching support to nurture young players and grow the sport at the community level.
Chandra also stressed the importance of partnerships, thanking sponsors for their support in 2024 and expressing optimism for continued collaboration in 2025.
He noted that these partnerships would play a key role in the organization’s efforts to expand its calendar of events and achieve its long-term goals.
