VODAFONE Fiji football head coach Christophe Gamel wants more game time for the national team in the build-up for the 2019 Pacific Games.

Fiji played Vanuatu and Tahiti in international friendlies earlier this month however Gamel believes arch rivals the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu are a step ahead of us in their preparations.

The Solomon Islands are touring the Netherlands while Vanuatu is on a tour of Indonesia. Gamel will meet with the Fiji Football Association executives today to discuss the issue. Fiji last won a gold medal in football in 2003 when the Pacific Games was held in Suva.

“I want to discuss if we can do something extra otherwise we will be behind everyone,” Gamel said. “It will be good if we can get some more top games.

“We know that we are just an outsider for the Pacific Games because I just want to remind everyone that Fiji has not won a gold medal since 2003. We have to work very hard and we have a lot of training sessions but for this camp it has to work well.”
