THE role of Customs officers as gatekeepers for Fiji has been stressed by the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service as the organisation marked International Customs Day today.

FRCS chief executive officer Visvanath Das stressed the important role played by Customs officers in protecting the planet.

“Customs contribute to the fight against climate change and provide enhanced environmental sustainability by supporting the effective implementation of various Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs),” Mr Das said.

This year’s theme for International Customs Day is “Customs fostering Sustainability for People, Prosperity and the Planet”.
