Netball Fiji has roped in former Fiji Pearls shooter Unaisi Rokoura as the new coach of the side.

The netball parent body in a statement said Rokoura was not new to the local netball community having represented Fiji as a player and coached the side from 2009 to 2013.

She coached the Papua New Guinea Pepe’s from 2015 to 2017. Chief executive officer Vivian Koster welcomed Rokoura’s appointment especially as the national team regroups after a long layoff because of COVID-19 and said the side would begin its preparation for international competitions in the New Year.

President RubyAnn Sorovaki said the executive committee was happy to hear of Rokoura’s appointment to the role and were excited to have her on board as national coach.

“We look forward to support her plans as we come out of lockdown and regroup to prepare for our 2022 commitments,” Sorovaki said.

Rokoura said she was excited to take up the position and she was well aware of the demands and expectations of her new role.

“My vision for the national netball program is to ‘build from within’— to create and nurture a strong team culture built on trust that will empower players to become the best version of themselves. My short-term goal is to ensure we qualify for the 2023 Netball World Cup in South Africa and ultimately over the next three years improve our world ranking,” Rokoura said.

Netball Fiji has thanked the Fiji National Sports Commission for its continued support of high performance programs through support for coaching staff.
