The Parliament will open its fourth and final session next Monday, February 16, with an address by Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu.
According to the Order Paper released for the sitting, proceedings will begin at 10am with prayers, followed by communications from the Chair.
The highlight of the day will be the President’s address, which will formally open Parliament and outline priorities ahead of the subsequent sitting week.
In preparation for the opening, Filimone Jitoko, Speaker of the Parliament yesterday chaired the first Business Committee meeting for 2026.
The meeting was convened to finalise the agenda and order of business for the Opening of Parliament, marking the commencement of the final session of the current parliamentary term.
Members of the Business Committee discussed and confirmed the business to be brought before the House, with the aim of ensuring that legislative priorities and other parliamentary matters are managed efficiently during the sitting week.
The Speaker said the committee’s work was an important step in setting the tone and direction for Parliament’s final year, as Members prepare to consider legislation and national issues in the lead-up to the end of the term.
The Opening of Parliament is a key constitutional event, signalling the formal start of parliamentary business for the year and providing an opportunity for the President to address Members on the state of the nation and the Government’s agenda.
