Fijian Parliament: $1.1m for recruitment of additional 40 naval officers

THE Fiji Navy has received a budget allocation of $1.1 million for the recruitment of an additional 40 personnel to operate it’s two new vessels.

This was highlighted by the Minister for Defence and National Security Inia Seruiratu while delivering his response to the 2019-2020 national budget in Parliament today.

“Considering Fiji’s vast EEZ and porous borders, there is a need to enhance maritime surveillance capabilities of the Naval Division,” he said.

“The provision of RFNS Savenaca and RFNS Volasiga would no doubt enhance our capabilities.

Meanwhile, $400,000 was allocated to find the 1 of 3DP relocation project from Togalevu Naval Base to the Lami Light House.
