THE Swire Shipping Fijian Drua has secured the signing of Fijian 7s star and Paris Olympics silver medallist Ponipate Loganimasi on a full-time contract for the upcoming 2025 Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific season.
Fans welcomed the news, as Loganimasi joins his Olympic teammates Iosefo Masi and Selestino Ravutaumada in the Drua men’s squad.
The 26-year-old made a remarkable debut for the Flying Fijians, scoring two tries in the Pacific Nations Cup final against Japan after stepping in for the injured Ravutaumada.
Originally from Ono-i-Lau, with maternal ties to Nabua in Savusavu, Loganimasi has made a significant impact on the sevens circuit, scoring 35 tries during the 2023-24 World Series campaign.
His outstanding performance helped secure a silver medal for Fiji at the Paris Olympics.
He also showcased his skills at the McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast Sevens tournament, playing for the Fiji Babaas team.
Expressing his excitement about joining the Drua, Loganimasi said: “I want to thank the Lord for the opportunity. Many kids in Fiji dream of playing for the Drua team, and I am blessed to have this chance.”
Fijian Drua Head Coach Glen Jackson praised Loganimasi’s talent, stating: “His debut with the 15s team was incredible. We know how good he is on the sevens circuit, and he will be a great addition to our team.”
Loganimasi becomes the fifth Flying Fijian to sign with the Drua this off-season, joining a talented group that includes Joseva Tamani, Peni Ravai, Inia Tabuavou, and Vuate Karawalevu.
As the Drua prepares for the 2025 season, the addition of Loganimasi promises to enhance the squad’s competitiveness.
