The Ronil Lal-coached Digicel Junior Bula Boys side is on track in its preparation for the FIFA Under- 20 World Cup 2023 in Indonesia.

This despite the side recording two losses and a draw in the Tri-Nations FIFA International Friendlies that ended at the Churchill Park in Lautoka yesterday.

The side went down 1-2 to Vanuatu.

Tonly Kalotang opened the scoring for the visitors as they led 1-0 at half time.

Joe Moses scored Vanuatu’s second goal in the 50th minute.

Gary Kubu pulled one back for the home side five minutes later.

Lal said the boys played well despite conceding goals from day one of the series.

“However, we have been lifting our standard,” Kubu said.

“We need to improve and polish some departments. It is like from the back, we need to be more structured.

“We have a couple of months left in the build-up before the World Cup. I think we have players in Fiji, who can do the job.

“I’m privileged to guide the team into the World Cup.”

The FIFA U20 WC will be played in Indonesia from May 20 to June 11.

Lal said it was an honour for him as a local to take the team to a world event.

“This will set the platform for other local coaches to pursue their career in the sport,” he said.
