THE Australian Wanderers Hockey team was surprised by the performance of the Fiji Hockey under-15 sides during their recent four-day tour.

Playing against both boys and girls under-15 teams in Suva, the Australian team did not expect such strong competition from the Fijian players.

Daniel Goodwin, a coach with the Australian Wanderers, commended the physicality and speed of the Fijian players and believes that there are potential hockey stars in the making who could represent Fiji at international levels in the future.

The Australian team thoroughly enjoyed their matches against the Fijian teams, praising their athleticism and skill levels which surpassed their expectations.

Looking forward, Goodwin expressed the team’s excitement to return for future tours and continue fostering a strong sporting relationship with Fiji.

“The Australian Wanderers really enjoyed playing against the Fijian teams, we were really impressed by the athletic ability for both teams, and their skill level. I think it caught a lot of our guys by surprise.”

The Australian Wanderers had a memorable time during their visit and are eager to come back next year for more competitive matches.

As the tour comes to an end, the focus now shifts to the upcoming Oceania Pacific Cup competition set to commence at the National Hockey Centre in Suva on Monday.
