RENOWNED and popular Fiji Times sports reporter Maciu Malo passed away at the Lautoka Hospital yesterday.

The sudden passing of Maciu after a short illness, has left his family and the media fraternity in shock.

The 43-year-old Naisausau, Namara, Tailevu, native and former Natabua High School student had a huge following due to his intuitive and in-depth stories on various sports – most notably sevens rugby.

Peers described Maciu as a humble man who made friends easily.

The Fiji Times editor-in-chief Fred Wesley expressed shock at Maciu’s untimely passing.

“We are all shocked by Maciu’s death. We pray that his family and loved ones will find comfort in this time of great sorrow,” he said.

Maciu was renowned for his coverage of the 2016 Rio Olympics and numerous HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series events and had given The Fiji Times readers the inside story from the tournaments played both locally and around the globe.

He is survived by his wife Lusiana and three daughters.
