A delegation from the Fiji Corrections Service (FCS) is in Wellington, New Zealand, to conduct an exploratory mission as part of Fiji’s plan to establish a Parole Board.
The team is led by Deputy Commissioner Auta Moceisuva who is part of a strategic justice engagement programme headed by the Acting Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Siromi Turaga.
During the visit, the delegation met with the Director of the New Zealand Parole Board and several board members to discuss key aspects of parole operations, including the legislative framework, board structure and functions, digitisation, and operational challenges.
“The discussions provided valuable insights into how a parole system operates in a developed justice framework, which will greatly assist Fiji as it develops its own Parole Board policy,” said FCS in a statement.
The consultations also explored areas of cooperation between the two countries, including the possibility of technical support and capacity-building assistance.
