Fiji Rugby Union development officer Koli Sewabu is encouraging all club coaches and interested participants to attend coaching clinics hosted by the parent body.
Sewabu said the idea of going to provinces and working with club coaches was to boost the coach accreditation process.
“We’ve been through a total shift in paradigm in terms of the professional set up of the Fijian Drua,” he said.
“In order to get the players and coaches’ ready at that level, there need to be some sort of alignment in terms of what is required after that level and how we drift to grassroots level.
What we are trying to do now is work with all provincial unions to ensure that club coaches get the certification that is required.
“We are trying to get the club coaches to do their coaching World Rugby level one accreditation and then it is up to their provinces to identify coaches who can proceed to level two.
They will need to start building their base to assist in their provincial setup which is their senior men’s team, the senior women’s team, the women under-18, the men’s U19 and the development team.
“While the game and the teams has expanded, there is not enough coaching coming through to cater with the growth that is happening.
“What we are trying to do now is get the certification required.
“We are now working in regions now to identify the coaches who have the ability proceed through to level two and start working with them to upskill them and at the same time bringing in teams.
“They need to know some measures to have in place to ensure that there is a difference in coaching men and women’s teams.”
Sewabu’s team, meanwhile, conducted a coaching clinic in Nausori on Tuesday.
