Fiji records $277m in imports in May; exports valued at $156m

A total of $277.7million value of goods was imported in May 2020, according to provisional data from the Fiji Bureau of Statistics.

It also reported the value of total exports was $156.3m.

The total imports and exports were reported to have decreased by $185.0m (40.0 per cent) and $22.8m (12.7 per cent), respectively, compared to May 2019.

“The May 2020 trade deficit amounted to $121.4m compared to $171.0m a month earlier (April).”

According to the data, Fiji’s major sources of imports for the month of May 2020 were China, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and United States of America.

Australia, United States of America, Japan, New Zealand and Vanuatu were major domestic export destinations for May 2020.
