Fiji Pearl close to retaining series

THE Fiji Pearls are edging closer to retaining the Pacific Netball Series (PNS) title after beating Papua New Guinea in their third match yesterday in Cook Islands.

The Fijians maintained their dominance from the start to overcome the Pepes 59-49.

In the earlier matches, the Julie Hoornweg-coached Fiji defeated hosts Cook Islands 59-36 on Tuesday before overcoming Samoa in a tough tussle 50-46 on Wednesday.

In the other match played yesterday, Samoa defeated Cook Islands 51-43 to remain in the hunt for the top prize.

The Matila Waqanidrola-skippered side will take on Cook Islands today before facing Samoa in the final match tomorrow.

The top two teams from the PNS will qualify for the 2015 World Netball Championship which will be held in Sydney, Australia.
