A MEMORANDUM of Agreement between the Fiji Police Force and the Nauru Police Force to enhance police to police cooperation between the two institutions was extended following a signing in Fiji this week.

The signing further enhances capacity building, strengthening people to people exchanges and training opportunities offered by Fiji.

The signing formalises the MoA for another 3 years.

Fiji’s Commissioner of Police Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho said the Fiji Police Force was always ready to lend a helping hand to smaller island nations.

“Fiji will always remember fellow Pacific island nations because we need to work together to tackle issues and crime as a region and we are happy to formalise this agreement and ensure the continuity of our working relationship,” Brig-Gen Qiliho said.

He said the passing out of the Nauru Police officers earlier in the week was another practical outcome of engagements to date and the people to people exchange programs would be further strengthened following the signing.

Nauru’s Commissioner of Police Corey Caleb acknowledged Fiji’s support towards their island nation.

“Fiji is not only the most appropriate place for the building of skills, knowledge and friendship, but also a place to emulate, therefore today is important in not only achieving what is need to protect our people and our country, but is critical to fostering a knowledgeable, resilient and sustainable Pacific region,” Mr Caleb said.
