Fiji FA mourns loss of young player

THE Fiji Football Association president Rajesh Patel, its board members and the entire football fraternity is in mourning and the the entire fraternity is saddened to learn the tragic death of Rewa U16 player Rayshal Roy.

Fiji FA President and FIFA council member Rajesh Patel described the anguish felt at the loss of one so young, one who had his life set out before him.

“We have lost an upcoming player and a true son of Fiji. One who had football in his heart. Football was his life.This is a tragic event – a young boy playing for the Rewa U-16 team, dreaming of football glory, to be cut down in the richness of youth leaves us all with sore hearts, tears and prayers for Roy’s family, friends, team-mates, coaches and Rewa FA officials,” he said.

“Roy had been playing for Rewa U-16 with distinction, he was a prospect that undoubtedly would have had a bright future in the game.

“No words can fully express our grief and dismay at seeing this happen, we can only pass on all our thoughts and prayers to the friends and family of Rayshal Roy and hope they will get some strength from the out pouring of love and support from everyone,” Patel added.

Roy drowned while having a family picnic Nasilai beach on Sunday.
