Fiji Airways Fiji Blue team has won the Fiji Bitter Mataso 7s after defeating Taikita Brothers 7s side by 29-5 in the Cup Final, played at Churchill Park in Lautoka yesterday.

The Taikita Brothers stunned the Fiji Blue team, made up of national 7s players, after they went over to the opening try.

Minutes later, Pilipo Bukayaro scored a converted try for a 7-5 lead, in favour for the Fiji Blue team.

Fiji Blue side then ran in four unanswered tries to seal the match, with Joji Nasova scoring a brace while Sakiusa Siqila and speedster Vuiviawa Naduvalo scored a try each.

National 7s men’s coach Osea Kolinisau, who coached the Fiji Blue team said the tournament was a very good competition for them, as the players were tested.

“We learnt a lot in this tournament and our Fiji White boys, unfortunately lost to a very good Taikita Brothers team in the semi-final but I am happy with what we have achieved,” he said.

Kolinisau added that the tournament was a first hit-out for the boys as a team.

“The boys were mentally tough to get through those situations and we learnt a lot about ourselves in this tournament.

“We will need to work on our discipline and work on the positives.”

He added that the boys had a slow start in the final and they had to dig deep to get the win.

Taikita Brothers team manager Mosese Bokini said he was happy with the results.

“This is only our second Fiji Bitter Series tournament and I am really proud of the way the boys has played.

“We take a lot of positives from this tournament,” added Bokini.
