FIJI 7s coach Gareth Baber is focused on getting his players ready for the task at hand at the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series in Singapore this weekend.
After the historic fifth consecutive title win in Hong Kong last weekend, Baber said he wanted his players to be focused for their next assignment Baber said his job was to keep the players where they needed to be to deliver on the weekend.
“It doesn’t change because suddenly there’s points or because we got into second position.
“It is about having quality and control in what you do, it’s about preparing in the manner that you have always done and it’s about not letting yourself get ahead of that mentally that you think that you are better than you are.”
Ensuring his players to keep their guard up this weekend Baber told the players not allow emotions to disrupt their focus.
Baber believes his team may still be on a high after the emphatic historic win in Hong Kong last weekend but he is doing all he can to focus the team’s mindset on the task ahead of them.
“Singapore is always mental, and every tournament means a lot,” Baber said.
“What we have to be guarded about is creating too many emotions in every tournament that we play in, because that’s where we get lack of consistency and players don’t stick to plan.”
