The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption inquiry into the alleged illegal allotment of residential lots by Housing Authority in 2010 is still active.
The investigation was launched last year following a Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Accounts report on the alleged offence.
The report reviewed a special inquiry by the previous government in 2020 that suggested more than 60 files of alleged abuse by Housing Authority of Fiji officials be handed over to FICAC. When queried about the investigations last Friday, FICAC said in a statement that it “will not comment on an ongoing investigation”.
Under the Parliamentary Standing Committee’s recommendations, Housing Authority of Fiji was advised to follow up on the cases (with FICAC) for prosecution and to frequently report this to the Ministry of Housing and in its future annual reports as well as the audit reports on the progress of the investigation.
“The committee recommended that a follow-up audit be carried out in June 2025 by the Office of the Auditor General and to also follow up on missing documents,” the report stated, adding that only one person has been charged so far.
