Veteran educator Dr Eci Tekuru Naisele is the new director of the Higher Education Commission Fiji (FHEC).
Dr Naisele’s appointment was announced by Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro last month.
Mr Radrodro said Dr Naisele’s appointment went beyond a routine administrative process, describing it as a strategic move to shape the future of higher education in the country.
Dr Naisele has more than 30 years of experience in the education sector, with a distinguished career that spans from classroom teaching to senior leadership roles with the Ministry of Education and FHEC.
He said Dr Naisele’s deep familiarity with Fiji’s educational landscape uniquely positions him to guide the Commission through its next chapter of development.
According to the FHEC, Dr Naisele is a holder of a PhD from Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi in New Zealand and was awarded the prestigious Outstanding Indigenous Research Award in 2023 – the recognition not only for academic excellence but also his dedication to advancing indigenous knowledge and producing research of international relevance.
Dr Naisele officially assumed his new role on May 5 following the completion of his tenure as Registrar as the Pacific Theological College.
