THE Fiji Crop and Livestock Council (FCLC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Pacific Islands Development Forum that will facilitate collaboration between the two organisations.

FCLC chief executive Jiu Daunivalu said the organisation was pleased to collaborate with the Pacific Islands Development Forum (PIDF).

SHe said the MOU would strengthen ties between the two organisations and would substantially create access for continued cooperation that would filter down to the farmers and farmers’ organisations.

The MOU was signed between PIDF Secretary General Solo Mara and FCLC chairman Simon Cole.

The objectives of the MOU include engagement on issues and programs or projects of common interest, improve information sharing, enhance consultation between both parties, and encourage reciprocal undertakings.

Mr Mara said both the FCLC and PIDF had a primary interest in seeing growth in income generation through sustainable use of our natural resources.

He said the need to develop climate-smart production had become an important area for the Pacific and this was bound to grow in importance in all PIDF member countries.

“With FCLC’s expertise in agriculture and PIDF’s climate change adaptation and mitigation expertise, we can find innovative solutions to this growing problem,” Mr Mara said.
