THE Fiji Bus Operators Association (FBOA) has yet again raised its concerns following the increase in fuel price as they continue to wait for a long-delayed decision on a bus fare review.
In a statement, the FBOA said while two cents increase in fuel price may not seem much, in terms of volume, each cent adds up and has a huge financial impact on bus operators.
“Bus operators are still awaiting a determination from the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission on its bus fare review application,” the FBOA stated.
“Bus operators have sought a meeting with the FCCC CEO and chair of the Bus Fare Review Committee to find a way forward in determining how future price reviews will be made.”
Despite the 11-year-old fare structure, which contributes hugely to operators’ financial struggles, bus operators have continued to uphold their obligations to continue serving the travelling public, the association says.
The price for diesel increased from $1.85 to $1.87 a litre from December 1.
