Family welcomes Vasiti

Vinaka na vosota. These were the words of Fijiana Olympic bronze medallist Vasiti Solikoviti to her parents Paula and Bua Solikoviti after they reunited at their family home in Saru, Lautoka, on Wednesday.

The Teci, Yasawa, villager was overcome with emotion when she reunited with her parents after spending six months apart.

“It took a lot of sacrifice from all of us,” she said after being welcomed by family and relatives yesterday.

“I remember the sacrifice my parents did for me.

“We grew up having no money. “Even though we didn’t have a lot, we still worked hard.

“We did whatever we could to take care of each other. My parents were always there for me and I will never forget the sacrifice they did to get me here.”

The Fijiana national’s mother said she was very proud of her daughter.

“I always remind her to always give the glory back to the Lord,” she said.

“Without Him and without His provision, we wouldn’t be here.

“She has brought so much happiness to our family and we will forever be grateful to God for what He has done for us and for Vasiti.”

Solikoviti said his daughter had also fulfilled a lifelong promise to them.

“Today, she told us she was going to finish our house,” he said.

“From tomorrow, we will have the first delivery of materials for the house.

“That is what she has done for us. “We will always be proud of her.”
