The High Court in Lautoka yesterday heard that Fiji Broadcasting Corporation and Deputy Prime Minister Professor Biman Prasad were considering a settlement on defamation proceedings filed by the latter at the height of the 2022 General Elections.
In October of 2022, Prof Prasad’s lawyers launched defamation proceedings against both Hiroshi Taniguchi — a former NFP election candidate — and FBC for the publication of “false and defamatory” statements made by Mr Taniguchi to the national broadcaster.
The matter was heard yesterday before Master of the High Court, Preetika Prasad.
Prof Prasad was represented by Simran Reddy while Ashanal Gounder and Nilesh Kumar appeared for FBC and Mr Taniguchi respectively.
Master Prasad gave time to lawyers for both parties to file the conditions of the settlement.
The matter has been adjourned to August 8.
