Former military officer Seremaia Tuiteci was produced in the Nasinu Magistrates Court yesterday for absconding bail.

Resident Magistrate Charles Ratakele heard that Mr Tuiteci was charged with two counts of breaching bail conditions — in one count, he allegedly failed to sign in at the Valelevu Police Station and in the second count, he allegedly failed to deactivate his Facebook account.

On July 25, he was produced at the Nasinu Magistrates Court for the offence of Malicious Act contrary to Section 15(b) of the Public Order Act 1969.

He was granted bail with conditions to sign in at the Valelevu Police Station every Friday between 8am and 5pm.

He was also issued a court order to deactivate his social media account. Mr Tuiteci sought legal aid representation in the matter but was informed by the court clerk that the legal aid lawyers had left and so he waived his right to counsel.

The prosecution objected to bail on the grounds that he had absconded bail set in July and had two previous cases of similar nature.

The case will be called again on Friday, October 15, and he has been given until then to make a formal application for bail.
