Fijian fans were fixated on cheering the Flying Fijians this weekend against Italy in an Autumn Nations Cup clash.

It would have announced our foray into the event following the cancellation of our first game, against France last weekend.

Now staring at a blank wall following the announcement that we had 29 cases of COVID-19 in camp, it was expected that fans would be up in arms.

It is frustrating when one considers the fact the majority of our players had been in action with their clubs prior to joining up with the Flying Fijians.

Now as we ponder on the question of what happened in camp, we are left to rue our misfortunes and probably keep our fingers crossed that we may still get a shot at one of the top tier teams.

Hopes now rest on how we address this massive obstacle we are now staring at. That will mean tests must continue to determine where we stand, and whether we may still be part of the competition.

On the home front though, sports events continue with the stage now set for the final event in our soccer calendar.

The Fiji FACT kicks off this afternoon at Churchill Park in Lautoka. Eight-time champions Ba are scheduled to take on the might of minnows Nasinu at 1.30pm, and hosts Lautoka will play neighbours Nadi at 3.30pm. Games move tomorrow to the National Stadium in Suva where Suva takes on the might of Navua at 1pm while Labasa faces Rewa at 3pm.

The Fiji FACT event then resumes at Subrail Park in Labasa from Wednesday, November 25 to Sunday, November 29 for the finals.

The event will include the President’s Cup which will feature six Senior Division teams from the North. The winner of the 2020 Vodafone Fiji FACT is set to collect a prize purse of $17,000.

In Suva, rugby fans are in for some exciting action at Albert Park today. This afternoon, a new champion will walk away with Suva rugby’s most prestigious trophy – the Escott Shield. Coming off as Suva’s best teams, Navy and Police will lock horns for the right to be champions this year, playing in the 107th Escott Shield grand-final.

The teams are ready for what is already building up to be an exciting clash that may even offer fans a glimpse of what to expect when the annual Sukuna Bowl clash happens soon.

All in all, there are some exciting sporting events to look forward to. But a reminder for us all though.

Let’s adhere to social distancing rules. Let’s keep COVID-19 at bay.
