TWO former Labasa Town Council officials have been charged by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) with one count of theft each.

According to FICAC, Ashok Kumar and Sashi Kant Shandil were presented at the Labasa Magistrates Court today.

The duo, who previously served as Head of Department for the Parking Meter section and Messenger for the Council respectively, are alleged to have stolen coins from the parking meters situated around Labasa Town.

Footage obtained from surveillance cameras sees the men collecting coins from the parking meters and putting it in their pockets.

FICAC State Counsel Darren Hickes appeared for Prosecution and informed the court that there was no objection to bail and that first phase disclosures had been served.

Both accused were released on bail with a bail bond of $500.00 each and were instructed to report to the nearest Police Post every Saturday, with a stop departure order issued accordingly.

The matter has been adjourned to August 19, 2019.
