DUDLEY Intermediate School’s under-13 rugby team secured a hard-fought victory over Marist Convent in the quarter-finals of the Suva Kaji Rugby competition at the Saint Marcellin Primary School grounds.

The match, which took place yesterday, was a test of skill and determination for both teams.

The first half saw a deadlock with both teams not able to score. It was a tense and closely contested affair, with both sides vying for dominance.

In the second half, Marist Covent took a 3-0 lead with a successful penalty.

However, Dudley responded with two penalty kicks of their own, turning the tide in their favor and sealing a 6-3 victory to secure a spot in the semi-finals next week.

Head coach Sakiusa Tuivanuavou commended his team for their exceptional effort and dedication on the field.

“The boys they really give their all on the field today (yesterday), they committed themself during training, and we come up with a good result,” said Tuivanuavou.

Reflecting on the match, Tuivanuavou acknowledged that the first half did not go according to plan but praised the team for their ability to regroup and execute their game plan in the second half.

“In the first half it was not up to what we are planned during training, but I told them during half time what they have learned they have to commit it during the second half.”

He emphasised the importance of improving their defense as they progress through the competition and face tougher opponents in the semi-final stage.

Tuivanuavou also gave credit to Marist for their strong performance, noting the challenge they presented to his team.
