Shocking statistics from the Fiji Police Force with the revelation that in the past five years there have been 109 drug-related cases involving children under the age of 18 years.

In response to queries from The Fiji Times, police said there were 71 juvenile drug cases involving 17-year-olds, 20 involved children who were 16, 10 involved 15-year-olds, seven involved 14-year-olds and one involved a 13-year-old in 2019.

During an International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (IDADAIT) event yesterday, Pundit Vishnu Deo Memorial School head teacher Niraj Sandhiv said Fiji should have drug awareness programs throughout the year because of the rise in drug abuse and also because in some cases children were being exposed to it.
