JASPER Williams High School’s head girl, Salote Tawaivuna, believes that with the support and guidance of her parents she has been able to achieve all her dreams.
One such dream was becoming the school’s head girl this year.
“I remember walking into the school on the very first day as a Year 9 student with only a single book in my schoolbag and a few stationary,” she said while addressing the school yesterday.
“My mother, Savina Tawaivuna, had to go above and beyond to be able to enrol my siblings and me in a school in Lautoka.
“At that time all applications were closed especially for the Year 9 lot, but as my mother stood outside of the Jasper (Williams High School) office, she had read a verse from the Bible which was in bold prints on a board derived from the book 2 Corinthians 5 verse 7 – for we walk by faith and not by sight.
“Through my mother’s faith, love and silent prayers and her heart of continually seeking God, I was able to be enrolled in this prestigious institution.”
The Year 13 student was inducted to lead the Jasper Williams High School student council alongside 93 other students. Also leading the students this year was hostel head girl, Shaina Deo.
She said she was honoured to be picked by her teachers who had the faith in her abilities to lead.
She said she hoped to make her teachers, parents and students proud through the new academic year.
Deo and Tawaivuna would be assisted by deputy head girl Adi Elenoa Tikotikoca and school deputy head girls Catherine Singh and Temalesi Yamuna.
