Dr Reddy decries alleged assault

THE action of Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama outside Parliament on August 9 where he allegedly manhandled a member of Parliament Pio Tikoduadua is unacceptable, says Government MP and Privileges Committee member Dr Mahendra Reddy.

According to the verbatim report of September 4, Mr Reddy said both parties were wrong because they had breached Parliamentary privileges.

“It was not proper for the Honorable Prime Minister to do that in that place and in that manner to anyone, let alone a colleague or a member of Parliament, that is not acceptable,” he said.

“Madam chairperson, I had said that two wrongs do not make a right. I had said that both parties were wrong and then provided evidence of where Honorable Tikoduadua was wrong and now I would say where Honorable Prime Minister was wrong.

“Honorable Prime Minister went in a public space, according to him and according to the footage, held his shirt and in the process he felt and obviously he would have felt the force.”
