Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has reminded the Fijian diaspora in Japan that they are representatives of Fiji in the Asian nation.

He met with the Fijian community in Tokyo, Japan, on Thursday night and thanked them for their contribution towards the country they’ve settled in with their families.

“When you are here you represent Fiji,” the Prime Minister said.

“Remember wherever you go, you carry our reputation and thank you for carrying the Fiji flag wherever you are.

“I encourage you to continue to be successful and remember one Fijian is Fiji, when one Fijian goes up Fiji goes up, when one Fijian goes down Fiji goes down.”

Mr Rabuka told the community that Japan has been a well developed partner, not only for Fiji but for most Pacific countries.

“And we value that partnership and assistance we get from the people and Government of Japan.”

Fijian Paulo Nawalu who has lived in Japan for more than 30 years and one of the first Fijians to play rugby in the Asian nation said the members of the Fijian community always looked out for each other.

“When one is in need, we all help out, we are always there for each other,” Mr Nawalu said.

“Living in Japan is great and we love this place but we always miss our home, Fiji. So we make sure to meet up as often as we can despite the long hours we have to travel.

“And we are blessed to have our Prime Minister Mr Rabuka visit us because this means a lot to us.”
