DIABETES Fiji project manager Marawa Kini says there is a huge demand for medical supplies especially syringe for the juvenile diabetic patients between the ages of two to three years old.
In an interview with this newspaper, Mr Kini said recently, there was a shortage of syringes for juvenile patients looked after by the organisation.
He pleaded with Government and relevant organisations to help support Diabetes Fiji’s mission on reaching vulnerable diabetic patients around the country. He said the syringes that the Diabetes Centre provided to its clients were purchased by the centre or received from generous donors.
“The reason that I am saying this is because there is a recommended syringe for juveniles,” he stated.
“Currently we are using 8mm but for the younger ones, we are asking if the Government can assist especially those attending pediatric clinic in the hospitals.” Mr Kini said there were 85 people who were presently registered at Diabetes Fiji.
He said because of financial setbacks, the organisations could not provide the necessary assistance to diabetic patients.
“We were grateful to have the assistance of Kontiki Finance who provided us with a car and also offered to fund the car maintenance and fuel so we can reach our clients who live further out in the highlands.
“We are hoping to receive some sort of assistance in terms of medical supplies for our diabetic patients here at Diabetes Fiji,” Mr Kini said.
