Defending champions Suva are poised to face the pressure as they prepare to defend their title in the 2024 Extra Supermarket Futsal Inter-District Championship, kicking off today at the Vodafone Arena in Suva.
With eight men’s teams competing for the championship, the teams are divided into two competitive pools, setting the stage for intense matches and fierce competition.
Team manager Brian Andrew Kurth highlighted the team’s rigorous year-long training regimen, emphasising the goals and targets set leading up to the IDC.
“We have been training hard throughout the year, we had goals and targets set and coming to the IDC,” said Kurth.
“The boys are all well and fit for the competition, and we can’t wait to play our first match against Nasinu.”
Acknowledging the pressure of defending their title, Kurth expressed confidence in the team’s ability to shine on game day, attributing their success to hard work and mental preparedness instilled during training sessions.
“There has always been pressure, we got that bull’s eye on us to defend our title, but for the day we believe our hard work and training will show, and we also have trained our boys to be mentally prepared.”
Focused on fine-tuning their set pieces and minimizing errors, Suva has dedicated time to hone their strategies throughout the week.
Kurth calls upon the Suva supporters to show up and cheer them on as they strive to retain their championship title.
Suva is in Pool B alongside Savusavu, Ba, and Nasinu.
In Pool A, Western champion Nadi will lead the charge as they compete against Labasa, Lautoka, and Lami.
The competition starts today and will conclude on Friday.
