A passenger who travelled with the suspected COVID-19 case of interest in Labasa has advised other passengers on that particular flight to stay indoors and adhere to the 14-day self-isolation period.

Mohammed Saiyum,  an employee of the Fiji Development Bank in Savusavu, said he had travelled to India in February this year to attend a training funded by the Indian government.

Mr Saiyum said while returning on March 22 to Savusavu, he had contacted his nearest hospital right away to inform them of his arrival even though he was feeling fine.

“They carried out tests and I was put on isolation which I observed because I do not want to be a risk to my family and loved ones,” Mr Saiyum said.

“The tests came back negative.

“I returned with two other women from Ba, including soccer player Roy Krishna and his wife, and the man who is being labelled as the case of interest.

“I have been in contact with passengers we came with and am advising them to observe and respect the 14-day isolation period.”

Mr Saiyum said it was always good to take precautions adding this was not the time to take medical instructions lightly.

“We need to also respect restrictions already implemented by Government for our own safety.”
