In an effort to further boost women’s football in the country, Fiji Football Association has decided for the first time, football fans will be watching the women footballers in action at the main pitch before the men take the field of play.

The winner of the 2020 Vodafone women’s IDC will win $4000 while the runner-up pockets $1500.

Fiji FA competition manager, Amitesh Pal, who had been with the association for the past 15 years, said this year would be special.

“We are hosting the women’s IDC with the men’s competition where fans can be treated with numerous games for one week,” the Nasinu man said.

“Ba is the defending champion, but we are happy to see my district team, Nasinu, back in the IDC after a lapse of six years.”

Ba came from behind to defeat Labasa 3-2 in an enthralling encounter at Churchill Park, Lautoka in early March this year.

Ba is being drawn in a pool of death with last year’s runner-up Labasa, Nadi, and southern champion Tailevu Naitasiri in Pool B.

Hosts, Suva leads Pool A with Rewa, Nadroga, and Nasinu. A total of eight teams will participate in the tournament.

The IDC will be played at the ANZ Stadium, Suva from October 6-11.
