Courts fully operational, says Acting CJ

All courts of law in Fiji are now fully operational after the majority of them were closed because of COVID-19, says Acting Chief Justice Kamal Kumar.

He made the comments during the opening ceremony of the 2020 Magistrates Workshop held in Sigatoka yesterday.

“I acknowledge all the magistrates for your assistance and contribution in making sure that members of the public who were in urgent need were not deprived of access to justice,” he said.

Justice Kumar also acknowledged magistrates for sitting during odd hours, including weekends and public holidays.

“I am happy knowing that courts are now fully operational with only issues left is the sitting of full court of Court of Appeal and Supreme Court.”

He said these were trying times, not only for our courts but courts in other jurisdictions as well.
