Three men alleged to have murdered a 40-year-old carpenter in Malolo, Nadi last year are expected to apply for bail at the High Court in Lautoka.

The trio, Shailendra Prasad, 44, Mohammed Shafim Khan, 20, and Muni Vishal Nair, 18, appeared before judge Justice Chamath Morais.

Missing from yesterday’s proceedings was Mr Prasad’s juvenile son, who was also charged with one count of murder.

In court, defence counsel Iqbal Khan said he would make a bail application on behalf of his clients.

He also argued the charges laid against his clients explained the victim was seriously injured when he fell on a boundary peg near Mr Prasad’s home on December 19.

Mr Khan questioned how his clients were charged with murder when the victim died from injuries sustained in the fall.

Meanwhile, state lawyers have requested for 14 days to file final disclosures in the case. The matter has been adjourned to February 3.

According to police, the group were part of a drinking party at the height of Severe Tropical Cyclone Yasa when an argument broke out between the men.

The victim was alleged to have fallen to the ground during the argument.
