In their efforts promote team work and solidarity among its tenants, the Public Rental Board organised estate family fund day for all the tenants recently.
PRB community officer Sitiveni Tabua said they saw a lot of benefits to community meetings such as the fund day which included sending messages for tenants to work towards homeownership.
Mr Tabua said three estate family fun days have already been held this year.
“The first one was at Delainamasi Primary School last month for our Nadera, Kalabu and Newtown PRB estates. The second meeting was on June 17 at the Nabua Primary School for our Mead Road Estate. The third meeting was on June 29 at Nehru Primary School for our Charles Street (Bagasau) Estate in Toorak.”
According to Mr Tabua such meetings also assist PRB to improve its estates images of being safe estates.
“People may have recalled that one or two serious crimes were committed at our Mead Road estates. These crimes have heavily tarnished the image of not only Mead Road but all our PRB estates.
“We want to roll back these false perceptions as we know our tenants better and a lot of our tenants have high aspirations. PRB have successfully evicted the families who were involved in crime from our Mead Road estates.
“We have plans for a number of upcoming fun days for our remaining Central and also the Western and Northern Division estates. These minor fun days assist us to gauge responses and prepare better towards our three days Market Day carnival which we have scheduled again for August at our Raiwaqa grounds and this year we are working on a partnership with the Fiji Police Force.
“We all know that the Raiwaqa area is another low-cost housing area, but they have a lot of families with high aspirations as well. We already did one Market Day Carnival at our Raiwaqa grounds in August last year.”
During the fund days Mr Tabua said they always ensured that the Fiji Police Force were always present at the events to provide security and support.
“We are also thankful for the Minister for Women Lynda Tabua for her acceptance to be the chief guest at our Mead Road fund day as her presence means a lot to our tenants. And not forgetting our financial sponsors for our tents Coca Cola, Shreedar Motors, Pacific Energy, and sports prizes. China Railway and FMF as they are the most important stakeholders to making these meetings possible.”
