Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Professor Biman Prasad says the Coalition Government remains committed to making Fiji “a land of hope and opportunity for all our people”.

In his Diwali message, Prof Prasad said this year’s celebration came at a time of “renewed energy, hope and display of determination, courage, patriotism and commitment” across the nation.

The National Federation Party leader said since the Coalition Government took office in December 2022, Fiji had witnessed “an abundance of goodwill, tolerance, unity and peaceful mutual co-existence amongst Fiji’s multi-ethnic, multi-religious and multi-cultural population”.

He said: “Deepavali or Diwali is the Festival of Lights,” a time for family, reflection and prayer, symbolising “the triumph of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance and most importantly, truth over evil”.

Prof Prasad said the Coalition Government “has given true meaning to common and equal citizenry” through fundamental freedoms such as speech, association and media.

“When the Coalition Government makes mistakes, it accepts criticism,” he said. “But we have always ensured that good governance, transparency and accountability are always upheld.”

He said Fiji was “illuminating the lives of our people and restoring pride and patriotism,” adding, “much better days lie ahead”.
